After
a wait of over a month,Apple has released the launch date of its iPad
Airand iPad mini with Retina Display for the Indian market. Both the new
tablets will be launched in India on December 7.
While the 16GB Wi-Fi only iPad mini with Retina display has been priced at Rs 28,900, its corresponding iPad Air model comes with a price tag of Rs 35,900. The company has not announced the prices of the 32, 64 and 128GB variants as well as the 4G-enabled models of the two tablets as of now.
iPad Air is 20% thinner, 28% lighter and has 43% smaller bezels than last year's iPad 4. The tablet features a 9.7-inch Retina display and resembles iPad mini a lot. It is 7.5mm thick and weighs 1 pound; Apple claims it is the thinnest full-sized tablet in the world.
The new iPad model uses the same 64-bit A7 chip and the M7 motion co-processor that was introduced recently with the iPhone 5S. It can open files and render graphics twice as fast as the iPad 4, while still promising the same 10-hour battery life.
The Retina iPad mini has twice the screen resolution than the first model at 2048x1536p in the same 7.9-inch display. It also runs on the 64-bit A7 chipset, a huge upgrade over the A5 chip used in the previous version. This model is a huge upgrade over the first-generation iPad mini.
Apple is bringing the new iPads to India soon after Google launched the second-generation Nexus 7 tablet in the country. Though the two are competitors, Nexus 7 is a much cheaper, with a starting price of Rs 20,999.
Apple recently recorded its best-ever sales in India with the launch of the iPhone 5S. The model has been sold out across India even weeks after its launch, even as retailers struggle to meet the demand for the device.
